Djokovic had raised his level of play in the important moments of the match and was the more aggressive player of the day.

The silver medalist Alcaraz had beaten Djokovic in the duo's prior meeting in the final of Wimbledon only a few weeks ago, but had no answers for the baseline aggression and net play from Djokovic in Paris.

In 2008 Djokovic won the men's singles bronze medal in Beijing, China.

Djokovic (2024) joins Andre Agassi of the USA (1999), his wife Steffi Graf of Germany (1988), Rafael Nadal of Spain (2010) and Serena Williams of the USA (2012) as the only tennis players to win all four of the grand slams plus an Olympic singles gold medal.

In a stunning accomplishment, Graf won all five tournaments: the Golden Grand Slam in one calendar year in 1988; a feat which may never be repeated.
