Dinara Safina of Russia or Australian Open champion and 3rd seeded Maria Sharapova of Russia in the semifinals.
1999 Wimbledon champion Lindsay Davenport could meet Sharapova in the quarterfinals.
Gentlemen's defending champion and top seeded Roger Federer of Switzerland has won Wimbledon the last five years. Federer is tied
with Bjorn Borg of Sweden as the winner of the most consecutive gentlemen's singles titles in the open era.
Federer has also won a
record 59 grasscourt matches in a row.
Only a few weeks ago in the French Open final however, Federer was handed one of his worst defeats ever by 2nd seeded Rafael Nadal
of Spain who has won his last 15 matches in a row.
Federer lost 6-1, 6-3, 6-0 but rebounded to win the title in Halle, Germany last
week without dropping serve once throughout the week.
In the semifinals, Federer could meet 3rd seeded and Australian Open champion Novak Djokovic of Serbia while Nadal could meet 4th
seeded Nikolay Daveydenko of Russia.
